What is YMSG and what does it do?
Young Mothers Support Group (YMSG) is an organization founded in 2018 with the primary purpose of promoting the rights of all young girls and women in Eswatini, regardless of their sexual orientation and beliefs. YMSG is registered under CANGO as the umbrella organization of all NGOs in Eswatini.
YMSG works to create equitable, enterprising, violence-free, food-secure, and healthy communities towards the improvement of lives and conditions of Eswatini communities. The organization is guided by the needs of vulnerable groups in society including disabled persons, children, youth, young women, older persons, and people living with HIV/AIDS.
Who does YMSG serve?
YMSG serves the poor, vulnerable, depressed, and voiceless young girls and women in Eswatini. The organization specifically targets:
- Young mothers aged 13–24 years
- Victims of early marriage and forced marriage
- Orphans from child-headed families
- Young people living with HIV/AIDS
- Disabled young women and girls
- Children of young mothers
YMSG believes that "we are a solution to our own problems and that a better nation is our responsibility."
What programs does YMSG offer?
YMSG is mandated to various development interventions and strives to work in the following sectors:
- Formal Education & Skills Development – Literacy, numeracy, and vocational training
- Health & Reproductive Rights – HIV/AIDS awareness, cervical cancer screening, VCT initiatives
- Financial Sustainability – VSLs, micro-finance, cooperatives, income-generating projects
- Agriculture & Food Security – Climate-smart agriculture, beekeeping, mushroom production
- Democracy & Governance – Participatory, transparent, and responsive decision-making
- Emergency & Humanitarian Response – Support for vulnerable women affected by emergencies
